HOW TO CHOOSE THE BIKE TIRES FOR YOUR RIM?- BICYCLE TIRE MARKING

As the bicycle tire will be worn off by driving day by day. When you have to change the tires on your bike, how could you choose the right tires for your original rim?

It is an easy way to choose a same size tire as the worn one.

The tyre size would be read on the marking. What does the bicycle tire marking mean?

Seen from the pic1, we could find the tire brand easily. There are many different bicycle tire brands, such as Michelin, Continental, Schwalbe, Maxxis, Kenda, CST etc.

From the pic2, we could see 47-622( 700×45C- 28×1 5/8 × 1 3/40 on the tire. The 47 is the inflated width in mm and the 622 is the internal diameter in mm. It's according to the European ETRTO standard tire sizes. In brackets are the French size (700mm outer diameter x 45mm width) and the Inch size (28 outer diameter x 1 5/8 height-indicates the height from the bead to the top x 1 3/4 width, if the width is same as the height then it would not be listed )

From the pic3, we could see the pressure marking which will guide to inflate the tire in a suitable pressure. As there are different units be used to express pressure, such as P.S.I.(the pound-force per square inch), BAR, PA( one newton per square meter), you could refer one unit when adjusting the tire pressure.

By learning about the tire markings, you would not be worried about to choose the wrong size tire.

Besides, here below are the bicycle tire sizes table. The table allows you to convert between ETRTO, English-, French-.
