This Full-Suspension Cargo E-Bike Hauls a Family of 4 https://ift.tt/2A6VFEA

Riese & Müller launched a new line of e-bikes for 2019, featuring the heavy-duty Load 75. This one-of-a-kind cargo e-bike aims for family-friendly alternative transportation.

Riese & Müller’s Load 75 upgrades the company’s popular line of heavy-duty cargo bikes. The brand says it’s the first in its class to haul three children.

Don’t have three kiddos? You can equip Load 75 with transportation accessories for hauling goods and cargo. Four different models intend to provide you with the exact combination of space, power, and speed you’re looking for.

The Load 75 cargo area measures roughly 16.5 x 29.5 inches with a 6.5-foot wheelbase. That’s 50 percent more cargo space than its predecessor, and the brand only added 6 percent to the outer length. The cargo area provides about 47 inches of load height and can carry up to 440 pounds.

But the real selling point is the Load 75’s versatility.  The e-bike accepts three different cargo hauling accessories. A cargo box with high sidewalls holds larger loads, and an optional tarpaulin will protect valuables from the elements. Pop in the low-sided cargo box for everyday excursions.

Plus, Load 75 is the first e-bike in its class that can haul up to three children — simply trade out the cargo transport accessory for a child carrier. The carrier will hold up to three children measuring a little over 4 feet tall.

And you can configure the child transport accessory in 12 different combinations. Riders can rearrange luggage racks, child seats, covers, footwells, and other accessories “to any variant.” You can fit three small children, two with cargo or extra legroom, and more.

The child carrier offers plenty of legroom or extra storage space with a 5-inch-deep footwell. There’s even room for a baby in the Maxi-Cosi opposite the other two passengers when using the three-child configuration. And the child carrier also features safety harnesses.

Pack Up and Go

Hauling heavy loads and children puts more stress on an e-bike than a single rider. So Riese & Müller added a 2-inch-travel suspension to the front and rear, making the Load models the only full-suspension cargo bikes on the market.

This “Control Technology” is designed to protect children and cargo from uncomfortable jostling across bumpy terrain. And the co-sprung cargo area is touted to reduce vibrations to the rider and provide better road-hugging at high speeds — although we’ve yet to test it out ourselves.

Riese & Müller equips its e-bikes with the popular Bosch drive system. The four different Load 75 models include dual 500- or 1,000-Wh batteries. Depending on the model, the e-bikes top out between 20 and 28 mph. A permanently fitted Abus Shield frame lock keeps your bike secure while 150-lux IQ-X headlights provide nighttime illumination.

Whether you’re hauling kids or cargo, match your Load 75 with the appropriate accessory, pack up, and go. The Load 75 Touring model lists starting at $7,630 while the Load 75 Vario model starts at $7,990. The upgraded Touring and Vario models retail for $8,330 and $8,690, respectively.
